". Several paired gonads exist along the edges of each leaf. "

https://sagan4alpha.miraheze.org/wiki/Brushrums

Given they exist along the edges of the leaf one could move them to the base as the leaves become more distinctly separated from each other.

But that would need to be mentioned.

It also leaves the ring of tissue around that center to be explained.

Which can exist, as a separate object.

I thought these dropped their spores into the water, it's alright to change their reproductive habit of course.

There's quite a few cyanide millipedes, although straight up spraying it as opposed to secretions is new to me.

If it can get into the competition and actually stick around without being metabolized out, it might be able to wreck their respiration long enough to do damage.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of H2S or something that wouldn't involve nitrogen.

A nice thing about the cyanide route though, even if it isn't all that affective toward purple flora, is that it would be devastating to consumers and lead to them avoiding this organism in favor of feasting on their competition.

this has a very large colony.

"Notably, hydrogen gas is an asphyxiant at very high concentrations. If it kept Cloudbubble Cryoutines/a specifically-adapted descendant in its roots, it could just flood pore spaces in soil a few centimeters around it, which woud displace oxygen somewhat, and stunt or redirect any root growth of would-be rivals. "

I question how applicable that is, given that hydrogen when placed in solid steel can and does penetrate into the metal. If the hydrogen actually stuck around long enough to choke out other flora, I guess maybe just doing what water plants do with snorkels might work.

I wonder if the hydrogen shouldn't be used to create an acid or something that will stick around longer.

i remember at some point understanding the skeleton for this, so that's a non issue.

Is the deal with the hairs resolved here now?

I see no problem with assuming the hairs continued to exist.

does this really only eat ferries? are there no other similar purple floras that it would eat?

that third one is pretty different.

I would consider possibly making that trait common to all members, but typically only occurring in situations of dense populations or close proximity, with it becoming highly apparent in those species that specialize more for those situations.

definitely true, plenty of animals and plants that normally should be able to survive in an area can be taken out by unusually cold events, even if it's something that may just happen every couple of years for a few days.

QUOTE (Disgustedorite @ Oct 25 2022, 01:47 PM)
That actually is multicellularity. Organizing and functioning as one organism the way oozes do is multicellularity.

Fair.

I thought that grex were considered polycellular in order to distinguish their mixed genomes, but the two terms aren't exactly rigidly distinct at all.

Edit

Pluricellular not polycellular

Are they?
I thought they gathered up lots of unrelated cells.

I guess if we used the term more loosely then it can apply, I think a lot of people assume it means they originate from a single genome or zygote though.
