Spardis are gonna outgrow it pretty fast. They can get big.

losing the lower nostrils also makes them unable to vocalize.

The hooks do break. They're just not inside the body where they can cause the most damage.

This skeleton isn't very realistic. And it will still shatter really easily because it's still basically glass which is very brittle.

Genus groups need a region range, not biomes.

Wingspan could get bigger. That was just an estimate.

Couldn't they just brake when landing?

Fiberglass will cut its DNA and give it cancer.

They need to breathe.

It is not possible for the lower pair of nostrils to move up.

What about the lower pair of nostrils?

What I do is have there be a brown-to-blue fade indicating more distant ground fading into the water

yeah ecological succession and local microclimates shouldn't be causing extinctions

Morphologically identical sporophytes and gametophytes are common in algae in real life. No reason it can't be the case with a large land plant.

A collapsed gill doesn't work in water anymore either.

I don't think the gills would work in air as-is. They would collapse and stick together, rendering it unable to breathe well enough to live no matter how wet they are.

The problem is that people with dyslexia may not be able to read it even when trying. I think fonts used for labeling in diagrams should be dyslexia-friendly, at the very least.

the font used isn't good for diagrams. It looks like an alien alphabet on skim or glance.

Chambered siluros breathed air and had bones.

This seems like a...strange choice for a species to become terrestrial.

@transfemgodtamer @Primalpikachu @HethrJarrod welcome to the Sagan 4 Beta team! You all may now repost your submissions as threads on the submission subforum.

Alpha nominations:

Planda - I mean, come on, everyone knows about the planda. It also has a memorable design and nice colors, good for a pastel theme with some saturated highlights.

Obsidian Shrub - Black flora in general have an elegant form, though I had to look for one that was stout and not phallic. It would make for a more typical blue-black dark theme with gold highlights, I think. The spore pod would work as forum icons, with the gold indicating a new post.

Beta nominations:

Carrkin - Obligatory crab theme.

Shardruby - Tbh I'm biased because this is one of my favorite crystals in Beta. Red and burnt orange color scheme.

I'd have nominated some kind of basal wormstem since they're really distinctly beta-specific but...they're all so long and skinny 😓

Are you only gonna nominate one species? You can nominate up to four, two from each timeline.

As was previously announced, we've added a new forum skin based on Protohydroia Octherma. We're looking to add more skins with different colors, but with both of Sagan 4's "mascots" now having their own skins, any additional choices by the staff team will probably be biased. So, we're looking for member input!

Please nominate some organisms that you would like to see made into forum themes by commenting on this thread.

Rules:
  • You may only nominate up to 4 organisms--2 from Sagan 4 Alpha and 2 from Sagan 4 Beta.
  • You cannot nominate your own species.
  • Please don't nominate organisms that were already nominated - this doesn't increase their chances of winning, it just wastes a nomination.

Organisms are only qualified if they meet these requirements:
  • The creator of the species is present in the community or otherwise easily contacted for permission to alter their artwork for this purpose.
  • The species is from before Alpha Week 27 or Beta Week 4 (to reduce "new stuff bias")
  • The organism can still be identified when it or its head (or other recognizable feature) is cropped and resized to be 40 pixels tall; try to select organisms that are stout or have distinct recognizable faces, leaves, or flowers.

In 2 weeks, we will sort through all nominations to ensure they qualify and hold a vote. The 2 organisms from each timeline with the most votes will have forum skins made based on them.

The material of the test should be specified in the form, like Test (Material)
