are chicks competitive among themselves for food brought from the parents?

how do parents determine who to feed?

size still needs the word "long" on it.

In the description you switch between "they" and "it" a lot within paragraphs. I do this too, but it can be jarring when very immediate.

is there more commentary intended on this submission? It's like a big fuzzy velvet worm with globby eyes.

oh hey how does it reel in the silk when hunting?

How does the population deal with winters?

The size in the template needs a reference dimension, tall, wide, long etc. I would also add (including/excluding bristles) depending on how you've decided to measure them.

"When a Cloudkeeper Krugg dies, its body will be used to expand the size of the Nimbus. "

may want to say nimbus cloud, right? Unless I'm misunderstanding here.

Given they need to be very lightweight I suspect the marchess would need to produce an egg only occasionally. Otherwise having multiple eggs and enlarged ovaries would put a notable dense spot in the nimbus cloud.

Having the egg hatch quickly is good, no need to figure out what to do with it beforehand.

I'm curious if the caste system here is age based, or selected at birth.

Honeybees are age based, ants are "selected at birth". Or rather, does an individual change caste over time, or does it get stuck with one job its whole life.

How are new marchesses made?

" They constantly keep the bristles clean by grooming each other."

rather than "they" I suggest putting the name of your species, otherwise based off the previous sentence it sounds like the dead krugg and the nimbus clean each other.

"...Terran Ant Queen. When a Cloudkeeper dies, its body will be used to expand the Nimbus Cloud in which the Cloudkeeper March resides."

I'm not sure if this sentence is needed since it was already stated before, though if there was more information to add to the concept it could work as a restatement.

I have to say that I really like how you draw in the background environment with your submissions

Oh their ancestor did take advantage of Little critters bumping into them, and looks like there was addition to the reproductive statement in this submission further pursuing that route for providing work into the release of spores.

This actually would pretty rapidly select for lots and lots of species in this group.

What trees specifically, not all epiphytes grow on all trees

I guess you could make these grow on all the trees in the area, but it would be good to list those trees in case a new group were to pop up.

Is this a prime specimen submission

Are the crystals hollow or solid shell tissue?

Are we allowing strictly asexual species?

Random words get capitalized by autocorrect in my descriptions, I noticed this to have happened in this submission a few times. I'm sure that I have still missed some of them.

Also added Autocoprophage to the diet.

Ooh interesting, so they're kind of like

Or other members of that family that only grow a single leaf. Except without going dormant

Support is still unknown.

This says there's a rather hard trunk, which usually in plant recolors means lignified tissue of some kind.

Though the whole carnofern ferrine lineage has struck me as something with a semi-lignified and highly fibrous trunk structure, so rather soft compared to true wood but harder than, say, a tomato.

Visually they make me think of cycads.

The ancestor does say lignin is involved in the branches.

I take note the trunk texture is less defined than its ancestor.

Does this still shed branches like its ancestor?

It appears the branches don't stick to a tighter top meristem for growth, rather spread more thoroughly along the trunk. Does this mean branch shedding is more irregular? It could give potential for a more complex growth habit.

Could be an option that, although new branches are formed from the top growth point as the trunk grows, old branches are not necessarily shed, and if held may continue to grow and become further branched. If shed they would simply leave a scar on the trunk and not be replaced.
If that makes sense.

You did make the ancestor, so how limiting its method of branch shedding due to light restriction is on the development of new branches is still up in the air.

there's a bit of an odd jump to the next line after

"spreading to the southern polar and subpolar"

It sounds like there is a caste system involving reproductive members and nonreproductive members, can you elaborate on their lifecycles?

It sounds like the colonies multiply similarly to honeybees, by dividing their colony worker populations. Because there are multiple Marches within a nimbus cloud you likely avoid the issue if a colony needing to create a new reproductive caste member without the existence of a current one as honeybees do, but the formation of a new March within a nimbus cloud could be an inportant piece of information and how or why a March may decide to break apart the nimbus cloud and drift away.

Is there anything more that I ought to add to the description?

edited,

I may remove heliothermy but it seems to be a thing among melanophytes.

i changed higher light demanding to more light demanding.

I added the word often in reference to floating to shift the statement toward a generalization on many times the fruit has fallen instead of only one.

What could be fun (tedious) is figuring out the mess of an antennae needed to excite retinol with it

Oh huh

Along with that the growth of an individual feather and shedding.
