The ancestor has four toes on each foot.

Ok then i will say the middle toes have fused into a single toe.

Or better, the fourth toe on each foot shrank down.

Or it simply lost toes? Losing toes is way easier than fusing or shrinking them.

Precisely!

If I may ask, does this feller still have fur or is it completely covered by the scale mail armor?

If it still has fur, maybe the scale mail armor could have its color tweaked to better separate it from the fur?

The outer coat is the quills.

I do admittedly still think that should be better separated by different coloring, so that doesn't get lost on accident in any descendants.

And I agree on just having it lose a toe on each foot over fusion.

Otherwise, I do like this.

Maybe carpozoans are just really prone to syndactyly.

Carpozoans in general are characterized by an unstable genetics when it comes to genes that dictate body plans, so I'd say that's distinctly possible.

I am not sure what the hold up on this one is but i am going with the "fused toe" option since i like the idea. If there is anything else i need to fix please remind me / let me know.

I suppose fusing bones is good for holding more weight anyway. @TheBigDeepCheatsy does it look all good to you now?

Alrighty. I feel like the fused toes should be played/explored upon later maybe...

Yeah it could actually result in the creation of something akin to our forearms or four legs where we can twist the end of it while maintaining a lot of strength. That would be an interesting thing, because then the descendants of this could have graspy digits like halfway up their leg and then have this big old forearm thing on the bottom with a single hoof.
