Every rule can be broken if justified. Today, I have chosen "no non-aesthetical differences between subspecies".

I better make my planned Terrorbeak descendant fast, then, and acknowledge how it persists under such competition. I planned for my Terrorbeak descendant to be nocturnal. What are the Argusraptor Complex's hunting patterns?

The Dundigger's main defense is smelling and tasting really bad. Does it not work on these due to a very poor sense of taste and smell, like how horned owls prey on skunks because horned owls seem to have a poor sense of smell?

I don't think this would taste them at all until after swallowing when it's too late, based on where sauceback taste buds are.

This thing's hunting strategies are extremely variable. Pack hunting alone is specifically mentioned as basically coming and going and jumping around the population. Also, the predators I have it killing are ones that it has the competitive advantage against; unfortunately, plents don't actually make very good carnivores due to wood, especially live wood, being very soft and bendy.

“They have completely lost their echolocation ability, no longer needing it at all.”

I get a feeling an opportunity shrew is gonna find a way around that.

I'm sort of getting a weird vibe from the apparent rule-break in this species. Sure it's justified biologically, but the rules imply that the lack of submissions like this are for purposes that go beyond simply being plausible or not. Can other submissions like this be made? Does this apply to Beta? I would ask Hydro about this if you haven't already.

I've already discussed this species with Hydro. The rule exists to prevent there from being something like two fundamentally different organisms with their own ranges that must be tracked; this is a deeply intertwined species complex where the two subspecies have an identical range, which means that the reason the rule exists doesn't apply to this case.

RIP future MniDJM having to sort this out

I can help with determining which species are actually extinct, since I have a thing set up somewhere among my user page subpages that detects species that are listed as extant but are no longer on the ecosystem page; when removed from biomes that overlap with this, any species that should now be dead will pop up.

I think my favorite coloration is the top one. The vibrant green eyes against the black feathers is quite striking, and almost evokes something with night vision goggles. I'm guessing the loss of echolocation, while partly fueled by the presence of eyes, was also in part due to many of the regions these inhabit are no doubt very noisy places to live, what with all the Cleaner Ukneuks tapping their trees, Umbral Sphinxs squeaking their choruses in the early morning and late evening, and such.
