The "extremely successful" thing seems a little like bragging, but then again this certainly is an improvement over something with literal curly wool trying to swim.

What exactly makes this not a normal descendant as implied by the topic description? What was it gonna be and what changed to get where it is now?

it was originally just like. move it north so I can have some of these further north for convenience

Then I realized there were a lot of things wrong with the ancestor.

" its' ancestor's ancestor," should be "its ancestor's ancestor"
For it to eat juvenile Minosparrows, it would have to get into Maineiac Salt Marsh: "The young, which cannot fly, live in large pools and shallow bodies of water inland in the marsh."
