Here are my two inspirations for this submission for the contest. I decided to go with something a bit more obscure by Wayne Barlowe than his more typically referenced works, in this case from Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials: Great Aliens from Science.

I find the diet of carrion through the top curious, maybe detail about how that's developed a bit more.

Ok, I added a bit more. As a whole - with some exceptions - plyents have generally stopped feeding through their mouths once they've achieved adulthood. As they are descended from swarmers, the top of the body is where the orifice is located.

I like it, good addition.
