The growth method of the leaf should be found in descendents of the Sunstalk, however, those would have microphyll as opposed to the full fledged leaves described in the Volleypom. They could have a spongy mesophyll, but not much going on...
The actual leaves described in this would be for descendents of the obsiditree, as that one has the actual support structures, and in it's description gives these structures gas exchange purposes.
